Laboratory (CSHL), New York and Dr. Dongying Gao, USDA-ARS Small Grains and Potato Germplasm Research
Unit (SGPGR) in Aberdeen, Idaho. The incumbent work location will be Cold Spring Harbor, NY and travel will be
required to Aberdeen, ID. The incumbent will collaborate with scientists at both locations with knowledge of barley
germplasm, breeding, pathology, and bioinformatics. The postdoc research will focus on comparative genomics and
regulatory architecture in grasses, with a focus on barley and sorghum genetics, and pre-breeding projects, links to
cold tolerance, grain quality and disease resistance.

  • Publish manuscripts and present research at scientific conferences on the activities performed
  • Develop reference genome assemblies and annotations for sorghum, barley and wild relatives accessions
  • Conduct comparative analyses with a focus on sorghum, barley, wild relatives, and other plant species
  • Assist in the analyses and interpretation of transcriptomic and epigenomic data in barley its relatives, and
    other grass crop species
  • Develop a deeper understanding of gene networks associated cold tolerance, grain quality and disease
    resistance
  • Help research experiments in field and greenhouse either in CSHL or Aberdeen
  • Support access to barley and sorghum genomics data in SorghumBase, Gramene, and other public
databases, and provide training to the sorghum and barley community
