Save the Date! XIII International Rubus and Ribes Symposium, July 15 - 21, 2023

The International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS) is hosting the XIII International Rubus and Ribes Symposium from July 15th to July 21st of 2023 in Portland, Oregon. This symposium is held every three to five years and focuses on the latest research in blackberries, raspberries, currants, and gooseberries. The main theme of the conference is “Resiliency in Rubus and Ribes Cultivation” and there are opportunities for scientists, growers, consultants, processors, and marketers of Rubus and Ribes crops who may wish to submit abstracts for presentations.

Topics include:

  • breeding and genetics

  • physiology 

  • new production systems 

  • soil and plant nutrition 

  • irrigation 

  • pests and diseases 

  • postharvest quality and handling 

  • marketing and economics

  • the status of the industry in different countries

Keynote speakers will include:

  • Dr. Tannis Thorlakson, Senior Manager of Environment at Driscoll’s USA

  • Dr. Romina Rader, Associate Professor of Ecology, University of New England, Australia

  • Dr. Bernadine Strik, Professor Emeritus, Oregon State University.

There will also be a pre-symposium tour through Washington and Oregon from July 16 - 18, 2023 that will include visits to local raspberry, currant and blackberry farms, a visit to Mount Saint Helens and a tour of the Food Innovation Center.

Abstracts submission opens September 19, 2022 and Abstracts are due January 20, 2023 and the full text is due by June 19, 2023. Registration opens September 26, 2022 and early registration closes March 17, 2023. For more information, visit the conference website.
