Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is hosting the “Chromatin, Epigenetics & Gene Expression” advanced course from July 21 - August 9, 2026. Jill Dowen from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Michael Guertin from the University of Connecticut, Aaron Johnson from the University of Colorado School of Medicine, and Marc Mendillo from Northwestern University School of Medicine, will teach the class. Students are required to have experience with basic recombinant DNA and molecular biology techniques. Each evening the class will also feature an invited speaker. The class will focus on exposing students to a broad array of methodologies to study gene regulation, chromatin structure and dynamics, including both state-of-the-art and well-developed methods.
The techniques to be performed in the course include:
Chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP)
ChIP coupled with sequencing (ChIP-seq)
Chromatinaccessibiliy assays (ATAC-seq)
RNA expression analysis (RT-qPCR, RNA-seq)
Electrophoretic Mobility Shift Assay (EMSA)
Chromatin Biochemistry
