Open Conference on Grapevine Physiology and Biotechnology in Logroño, Spain, July 7-11, 2024

The Institute of Grapevine and Wine Sciences is hosting the Open Conference on Grapevine Physiology and Biotechnology in Logroño, Spain from July 7-11, 2024. This multidisciplinary, interactive forum will be focused on the grapevine's physiological responses to the environment and to beneficial or pathological organisms as well as the development of technologies to adapt and improve those responses in this era of climate change. Proposed sessions include:

A Gold-Standard Reference Genome for Grapevine

Cultivated grapevine (Vitis vinifera ssp. vinifera) has a high level of heterozygosity, so when the grapevine genome was to be sequenced, the nearly homozygous PN40024 clone was selected, and it is now used as a reference in many grapevine studies. The third assembled version of this genotype (12X.v2) depended on six dense parental genetic maps (Canaguier et al. 2017).

Unraveling the Molecular Brake: ZmMs1's Role in Maize Male Fertility and Exine Thickness Regulation

Male fertility can be affected by properties of the pollen grains. The exine layer protects the pollen grain from external stressors, and is of paramount importance in the process of fertilization. If the exine is too thick, it can prevent fertilization.
