Cultivated grapevine (Vitis vinifera ssp. vinifera) has a high level of heterozygosity, so when the grapevine genome was to be sequenced, the nearly homozygous PN40024 clone was selected, and it is now used as a reference in many grapevine studies. The third assembled version of this genotype (12X.v2) depended on six dense parental genetic maps (Canaguier et al. 2017).

Male fertility can be affected by properties of the pollen grains. The exine layer protects the pollen grain from external stressors, and is of paramount importance in the process of fertilization. If the exine is too thick, it can prevent fertilization.

Plans for the International Conference on Arabidopsis Research (ICAR) 2024 have been announced. The meeting will be held in San Diego, California from July 15-19, 2024. The organizing committe is led by Dr. Joanna Friesner, NAASC Executive Director.
