Postdoc Position to work on Brachypodium and Oat

The USDA, Agricultural Research Service, Plant Science Research Unit in St. Paul, Minnesota is seeking a POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE, (Research Geneticist Plants) for a TWO YEAR APPOINTMENT (the appointment may be extended up to a total of 4years without further competition).  Ph.D. is required. Salary is commensurate with experience ($59,631 - $77,515 per annum) plus benefits.  Citizenship restrictions apply.

The incumbent will conduct genetic and genome analysis of oat, Avena sativa, relevant to improving this crop.  The incumbent will employ genome resources for the model grass Brachypodium distachyon, and oat-Brachypodium genome colinearity, to accelerate improvement of crown rust resistance and other traits in oat. Computational and molecular genetic methods will be used to establish the relationship between regions of the oat genetic linkage map and the genome sequence of Brachypodium. This information will provide opportunities to identify new molecular markers for traits of interest in oat, and to identify important agronomic genes in oat using Brachypodium as a surrogate model system for gene discovery.  The incumbent will interact with other oat researchers and bioinformaticists, and therefore excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively is required.
