Travel Awards available for Rice Genomics Symposium in Manila

Announcing an opportunity to participate in the 6th International Rice Genetics Symposium and the 7th International Rice Functional Genomics Symposium, November 16-19, 2009 (http://www.ricegenetics.com/).

To facilitate collaborative international research in the area of rice genetics and genomics, funds have been granted from NSF Plant Genome Program and USDA-NRI Plant Functional Genomics Program to support the participation of graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and junior faculty from the USA to attend the 6th International Rice Genetics Symposium and the 7th International Rice Functional Genomics Symposium, which will be held in Manila, Philippines November 16-19, 2009. Symposium speakers will feature leading scientists from the international rice research community, and the symposium will provide an excellent opportunity for young scientists to discuss their research and foster potential collaborations. Information on the meetings, including instructions for abstract submission and registration materials, can be viewed at http://www.ricegenetics.com/. Applicants must be US citizens or Permanent Residents. The support provided will be in the form of partial reimbursement of conference expenses, which could include registration fees, lodging and/or air-travel booked through a U.S. air-carrier. Applicants should send their C.V. (max 2 pages), abstract of poster or oral presentation, names of two references and a cover letter (1 page) to Dr. V. Sundaresan, University of California-Davis. The cover letter must include a justification for travel support and a brief statement on how attendance at the Symposium will enhance your research and facilitate the formation of international collaborations. The deadline for applications is September 30th. Early application before September 15th is encouraged as the funds are limited. Applications from US citizens who are women, minorities, and persons with disabilities are especially encouraged. Successful candidates will be expected to

  1. attend all meeting sessions and functions
  2. present a poster of their research
  3. attend the tour of IRRI at the end of the meeting
